Everett Hallberg Remembers

I was on Guadualcanal at the time of this explosion, actually in the Port Office at Lunga Beach. This was our first landing site and we lived in pup tents for a couple weeks before setting up the larger 6 men tents in rows. The picture with the small railroad was used to transport coconuts to the docks before the war.

Guadalcanal was owned by England at the time and they had a regular trade. Fact Lunga Beach had a small wharf, but the Sea Bees built a regular dock so ships could tie up and load vehicles.

I have various photo's, mainly of individuals and friends. Never did any of the complete company, since we seldom gathered unless in ranks and then it was not time for pictures.

All these fellows were in my company and I should have been part of that crew, however I transferred out a week before to work in the Port office. The explosion moved our complete building three feet off it's foundation.

Have some of the cemetery and Chapel, which I understand is now in ruin. Most of the graves have been moved to my knowledge. Least the ones that died on the Serpens.
